 ABOUT US Laura Monica, founder of WholyFit Devotional Exercise is a certified fitness professional and worship leader vocalist with 25 years' of experience in both. Certifications: Among other certifications, Laura is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health and Fitness Instructor. ACSM is the Gold Standard in the fitness industry. The ACSM Health/Fitness Instructor® is designed primarily for leaders of preventive health programs in corporate, commercial, and community settings aimed at low- to moderate- risk individuals or persons with controlled diseases, such as hypertension, obesity or asthma. Laura is also a competitive martial artist studying under Rick Prieto, 8th degree black belt in Chun Kuk Do Mixed Martial arts. Laura's black belt is pending October 2008. Chun Kuk Do was founded by Chuck Norris who is a committed Christian and therefore no New Age philosophies are included in this particular martial arts system. Laura has taught 10,000 hours group exercise classes in both the church and in pro health clubs all over the U.S. She is also a worship leader and solo church vocalist (since 16 years old). ALL FITNESS LEVELS, BODY SIZES AND SHAPES ARE WELCOME WHOLYFIT certification is geared toward the church environment and health clubs, and is often called, "a bible study in motion". WHY WHOLYFIT IS BETTER THAN YOGA WHOLYFIT is better than Yoga because WHOLYFIT has a detailed, purposeful warm-up. Yoga typically does not include a warm-up. WHOLYFIT is better than Yoga because names of WHOLYFIT postures are original and correspond to Scripture and are Christ-honoring. Names of Yoga postures are often honoring to religious heroes of the Yoga religions. WHOLYFIT is better than Yoga because WHOLYFIT teaches the practice of Christian Meditation by thinking about Scripture which is much different than classical Yogic meditation. WHOLYFIT is better than Yoga because the WHOYFIT warm-up cycle provides cardiovascular benefit. Most Yoga classes do not offer this type of training. WHOLYFIT is better than Yoga because WHOLYFIT offers a definite format. Yoga classes vary and has no set format. WHOLYFIT is better than Yoga because WHOLYFIT offers fitness based sequencing. You will get an awesome workout that is just right for you. Many Yoga classes do not emphasize the specific fitness goals that WholyFit does. After being struck down in her 30's by chronic illness, Laura was able to return to teaching fitness classes after gradual healing through prayer. Stretching exercise became part of her continued wellness. She began teaching fitness classes after her comeback at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, GA and now has founded WholyFit, a Christian Fitness certification organization.
Once having only a "hard-body" mentality, Laura's thinking about fitness was permanently changed after her experience with illness from a concentration on outward oriented goals to an inward focus on health. Her heart had changed, too. She learned compassion through her health struggles and has an emotional connection with her students that transforms Laura's journey through physical weaknesses into her greatest strength. Laura says,

WholyFit exercises may look like Yoga, but they are actually original as far as biomechanics and technique. For example, this advanced exercise was taken from Laura's College spring board diving days.

WholyFit exercises do not include high risk movements as defined by common fitness industry standards. For example, Yoga exercises like "Lotus", "Plough" and "Cobra" are contraindicated postures in most fitness training manuals (ACE, AFAA, ACSM) and are not done in WholyFit. WholyFit's original postures may sometimes look like yoga, but the technique behind them is very different. WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN FITNESS CERTIFICATION Your church members deserve excellence. Ask the following questions before adopting a fitness program: How much actual experience do the trainers have? If the main trainer of a certification program claims to be a personal trainer or group exercise instructor, check to see if they are certified by AFAA, ACE, ACSM or another reputable certification organization. Anyone can say they have taught aerobics, but the key is whether they are qualified or not. Don't be afraid to ask questions. How many hours of classes have they taught in a professional environment? How many personal training clients have they had? Are they truthful in representing their qualifications? Character is especially important for those claiming to be followers of Christ.
